Rebus introduces Single Mined Origin (SMO) Gold to its jewellery range
Single Mine Origin gold is a new global standard for gold that guarantees it to be responsibly sourced and fully traceable to a single mine, currently the Hummingbird-owned Yanfolila mine in Mali, West Africa.
SMO Gold is unique in the market because the gold remains segregated and traceable through both the refining and manufacturing process. SMO certification and stamping provides an auditable chain of custody for every gram of gold and peace of mind that this metal has been produced within strict parameters of corporate, social and environmental responsibility.
SMO denotes gold that has been produced by a legitimate mining operation which holds no ties to conflict, where miners are being paid a just wage under secure employment.
Furthermore, SMO strives to ensure that the communities living locally to the gold source are benefitting from sustainability initiatives carried out by the mining operation. Such initiatives include programmes centred on education, healthcare, safe drinking water and agricultural prosperity to support a wide number of people.

SMO gold is a joint venture developed by Dan and Charlie Betts of The Betts Group, 9th generation British refiners and gold bullion dealers. With a combined 260 years of experience and heritage, the Betts family name has been inextricably linked with the precious metals industry, since the dawn of the industrial revolution in 1760. The Betts Refinery in Buxton is the only Fairtrade and Fair Mined certified facility in the country, as well as the pioneers of Single Mine Origin.
From the moment it is mined, every gram of gold is traced by batch right through to the creation of a finished product. Single Mine Origin gold is segregated all the way along the supply chain, ensuring that our customer knows exactly what they are purchasing. This chain of custody for SMO gold is fully has undergone rigorous external process assurance and can be externally audited, in order to give even greater confidence to the consumer.
A QR code is supplied with each piece of Rebus SMO jewellery that links to details of where and when the gold was mined and information about the mine, such as the social, environmental and community projects it runs. This allows you to truly explore the gold’s provenance and the community story behind it.
