1. What is the London showroom address and nearest train stations?
Rebus showroom and workshop: 67-69 Leather Lane, London, EC1N 7TJ.
It is located a few minutes’ walk away from Farringdon Station which is served by London Underground (Circle line, Hammersmith & City line, Metropolitan line) and National Rail. The workshop is also very close to Chancery Lane (Central line). Alternatively, you can park free of charge outside the workshop on Saturdays from 13:30 onwards..
2. What are your opening times?

Rebus is closed on Monday, 27th May and will reopen on 28th May.

3. Do I need to make an appointment to visit you?
Walk-ins are welcomed, however to ensure we can give you our undivided attention, we recommend booking an appointment. The easiest way to arrange a meeting is to use the following link, so you can select and book a time that is convenient for you.
1. How do I place an order?
You can buy online or why not pay us a visit at our workshop, 67-69 Leather Lane, in London's jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden. We have the full range of signet rings and jewellery for you to try on, and you will be able to speak directly with the Design Team. You are welcome to just drop by or to ensure we can give you our undivided attention, we recommend booking an appointment at a time that suits you on our booking page.
If you cannot come into the workshop, we can pre-arrange a video call with you.

2. Can I order from overseas?
Yes, we have customers from all over the globe and offer free delivery worldwide.

Non-UK orders are exclusive of UK sales tax (VAT) which is currently 20%. This will be removed from your order at checkout.
All deliveries outside the UK may be subject to local import duties and taxes.
3. Are video calls possible?
We are happy to pre-arrange a video call with you via Zoom. This is an excellent option for overseas customers or if you cannot make it into our London store.
4. How do I discover my finger size?
The easiest way is to use our enquiry form to request a free plastic finger size gauge, which will post out to you in our welcome pack. Measuring your finger is not an exact science, as the size of your fingers change during the day and is affected by temperature. Do not measure your fingers when you are cold or overly hot. Fingers swell with the heat and contract when they are cold. In our opinion, the best time of day to measure your fingers is in the middle of your day. For our international customers, please use our international ring size conversion chart to determine the standard British size that corresponds to your international ring size.
5. What happens if my signet ring is the wrong finger size?
If the finished signet ring needs a slight size adjustment, within three sizes up or down, we will do this free of charge, if returned to us within 28 days of purchase. In most cases, you can expect this work to be completed within one week.
Please contact us before returning your jewellery for advice. International and UK customers are responsible for any carriage costs incurred in returning your jewellery.
Resizing stone-set rings is not always possible, we always recommend coming in for a fitting before we set the stone into your ring. If coming in for a fitting is not an option, we can send you a 3D printed resin replica ring to try on. Please contact our design team for further information.
6. How long does it take to make my signet ring?
Due to the complexity of hand-engraved artwork, your purchase could take one week for pendants or cufflinks, or up to 12 weeks for seal-engraved, stone set jewellery.
Therefore, accurate lead-times need to be quoted on an item-by-item basis. We are happy to try to accommodate any special deadlines or accurate delivery dates, for more information contact us here.
7. Can you replicate an old signet ring that I have or create a bespoke signet ring not shown on the Rebus website?
Our Bespoke Service exists to help you design and create something truly unique. Maybe you require a style or size signet ring that is not shown, or recreate a signet ring a family member or friend had. These are all services, from initial sketches through to the finished item, our experienced design team and craftsmen can undertake for you. Further details can be found on the Bespoke Service page.
8. Will I receive an order confirmation?
Once you have placed your order, you will receive a confirmation email with a summary of your purchase(s). Once your order has been completed, we will let you know and provide postal/courier tracking information. If there are likely to be any delays with your order, we will notify you.
9. Can I order gift vouchers?

10. Can I change or cancel my order?
As each piece of Rebus jewellery has been individually made for you this is not always possible, please contact us ASAP with any changes, and we will do our best to accommodate. We cannot exchange or refund items of jewellery that have been engraved for you. Please check our T&Cs for further information.

You can pay using the e-commerce section on this website via:
Paypal, Maestro (Switch), Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We also use Apple Pay.
If you prefer to send your order specifications, we can prepare and email you an e-invoice that you can use to easily pay securely online. We can also take your payment over the phone, and you can pay for all or part of your order using the Rebus Gift Vouchers. To make a balance transfer to our account (BACS) please contact us. Transactions are processed in either British Pounds Sterling on our UK website or in American Dollars on our US website.

3. Security
To securely receive your payments over the internet, the highest level of card data security is used. All transaction information passed through Rebus’ checkout automatically uses an encryption key length of 128-bit to 256-bit extended validation SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption certificates supplied by GlobalSign. This is the highest level commercially available. You can be completely assured that your card details cannot be examined, used or modified by any third parties attempting to gain access to sensitive information. Please note that using email is not encrypted and is not a secure means for transmitting credit/debit card information or any personal information you wish to keep private and secure.

1. What is PayPal Pay in 3? (https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-payin3/faq)
PayPal Pay in 3 is an interest-free loan that lets you split your basket into 3 payments, with the first due at time of purchase and subsequent payments due every month on the same date. It’s a great way to spread the cost of larger items or to cover emergencies, and is a helpful tool to manage your budget more effectively. Please note that Pay in 3 is a form of credit, so carefully consider whether you can afford the repayments and possible impact to your credit score.
2. How can I pay with PayPal Pay in 3?
Just choose to pay with PayPal when you shop online, log into your PayPal account and, if it is an eligible transaction, you’ll see PayPal Pay in 3 as one of the available payment methods. After selecting it, you can apply for a PayPal Pay in 3 plan in a few simple steps, get an instant decision and finish checking out.
3. What purchase amounts qualify for PayPal Pay in 3?
You can use PayPal Pay in 3 for eligible shopping cart amounts between £30.00 to £2,000.00. These values may vary from merchant to merchant.
Transactions can be made in all currencies that PayPal supports, not just GBP. For transactions not in GBP, PayPal will automatically convert the transaction amount to GBP at checkout before providing you with your PayPal Pay in 3 plan. Currency conversion charges will apply as set out in your PayPal User Agreement.
1. What can I have engraved on a Rebus piece of jewellery?
Your signet ring is a blank canvas ready for you to personalise with whatever you wish. Rebus uses traditional hand engraving techniques, so we can do almost anything to any part of the ring: the face, shoulders and secret messages inside the shank.
2. Can I engrave a Rebus piece of jewellery after I have bought and worn it?
Yes, you can, quite often items of jewellery are gifted and then the recipient of the gift returns to discuss engraving designs for that piece.
3. Do you do the hand engraving in house?
Yes, we do, under the Rebus showroom we have a large workshop that accommodates 16 craftsmen and production staff. We are more than happy to give anyone of our customers a tour of the workshop and meet the craftsmen and women.
4. Can I get a non-Rebus piece of jewellery engraved?
As our engravers are fully occupied with the rings we are making, we only have the capacity to engrave pieces that are made by Rebus.
5. Why are seal engraved designs in signet rings engraved in reverse?
Traditionally, the heraldic design is hand engraved in reverse into the ring, so that the wax impression shows an accurate 3d representation of your artwork. It was this wax impression or ‘seal’ that was used on documents and envelopes.
If you do not want your crest or monogram seal engraved in reverse, let us know and we are happy to engrave the design in your jewellery piece for show/in ring view as it appears in its original artwork.
1. Where do I begin searching for our family crest?
We have around 30000 family names in our database, but it is not exhaustive. If your email us with your family name, we can have a further look at our reference books here at our workshop.
Failing that we can introduce you to one of the heralds at the London College of Arms, where they can conduct a thorough search on the family name in question.
2. Why doesn’t our family name appear on our searches in your database?
The online Rebus crest database is thorough but it is not exhaustive, and it has been sourced from Victorian reference books that specialise in family names from Great Britain and Ireland. So geographically you may not be covered, or your family crest may have been granted after the books were published.
3. What is a crest?
The crest sits on top of the coat of arms often above the symbol of a helmet or coronet/crown. This reflects its medieval origins as a means of identification during combat when an emblem would be attached to the top, or crest, of the combatant's helmet. If they are not accompanied by a coat of arms, crests are usually shown on top of a twisted band (a wreath), coronet or cap (called a chapeau) reflecting their historic origin. Traditionally, only crests were engraved onto signet rings in the United Kingdom as the full coat of arms was reserved for larger and more ceremonial items. Unlike a coat of arms, the crest can remain the same across generations and different branches of one family. Sometimes a family's crest is a play on the surname or an emblem of its occupation or trade. A ducal coronet may be added to the crest of a bishop while a mural coronet can signify a military distinction and a naval coronet a naval one.
4. What is a Coat of Arms?
A coat of arms is the entire heraldic device that can include the mantling, a helmet, a crest, a motto and, in the case of peers and clan chiefs, a coronet and supporters. They are displayed on a shield, and together they identify the owner who has been granted the right to bear arms. A son will inherit his father's arms and quarter them with his mother's and so on, making some coats of arms very complicated.
5. Can I supply my own artwork?
Yes, you can, but we would need to see the artwork first to confirm the cost. If you can contact us using our enquiry form on the contact page giving a brief outline of your requirements, then one of the Rebus team will be back in touch to advise the best way to proceed. The supplied artwork does not have to be perfect or to scale. We can work from old drawings, photos, letter headed paper, wax impressions from previous engraved rings or even just a description.
6. Can Rebus help me design my own symbol or motif?
Yes, why not consider having your own personal design or symbol commissioned. We work with designers and specialist heraldic artists to create bespoke artwork suitable for engraving. The commission begins with a (no obligation) discussion that can be a face to face meeting in the workshop, or remotely via Zoom. From this initial meeting we will look at any visual reference points you have collected, cover design ideas, production advice and create a brief to work from to begin the design process. The first consultation is free, after which we can give you an accurate quote to carry out the work.
1. Looking after your jewellery
We recommend when you are not wearing your signet ring, store it in the Rebus presentation box it arrived in. Avoid chlorinated water, especially if your jewellery is set with stones. Always avoid wearing it when swimming as suntan cream and cold water is a combination that is liable to make your Rebus signet ring slip off your finger.

3. Can you explain a little about British Hallmarking?
Rebus customers can rest assured that all of our products come with a guarantee of the precious metal content through the 700-year-old practice of third-party independent hallmarking.
The 1973 hallmarking act makes it unlawful to describe an item over a certain weight as gold, silver, platinum or palladium without an independently applied hallmark.
- • Silver articles weighing more than 7.78 grams must be hallmarked.
• Gold articles weighing more than 1 gram must be hallmarked.
• Platinum articles weighing more than 0.5 grams must be hallmarked.
• Palladium articles weighing more than 1 gram must be hallmarked.
Articles below these exemption weights may be described as gold, silver, palladium or platinum without the need for a hallmark.
At Rebus we value the UK's hallmarking heritage; we do not view it as an inconvenient legal necessity but a service that should be celebrated. Therefore, we prefer each hand punched hallmark stamped into the head of your signet ring as large display marks. Not only do hallmarks serve as consumer protection but each hallmark carries significance because of the information each represents. Future generations will be able to discover which UK city your signet ring was hallmarked, who created it, what it is made from and the year it was created.
We use the London Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office which has been responsible for testing the quality of precious metals since 1327. In fact, the word hallmarking itself refers to the goldsmiths' hall where, from the 15th century, London craftsmen brought their work to the Hall for assaying and marking.
A hallmark consists of a series of marks applied to articles of the precious metals platinum, gold, palladium and silver. It means that the article has been independently tested and guarantees that it conforms to all legal standards of purity (fineness).
A Rebus signet ring will carry the following punch marks: sponsor's (manufacturer's name) mark, in our case RS which refers to Rebus Signet Rings Ltd

Precious metals are rarely used in their purest form but are usually alloyed with other metals. It isn't possible to detect an article's precious metal content by sight or touch. Therefore, it is a legal requirement to hallmark articles containing precious metals if they are described as such.
4. Ethics
Rebus is a member of the National Association of Jewellers. The NAJ’s code of ethics requires every member to abide by the following rules:

2. To comply with all UK government laws and regulations relating to the jewellery, watch and related industries.
3. To abide by the articles of association and objectives of the NAJ and this code of ethics.
4. To provide a standard of product and service of the highest possible quality commensurate with price.
5. To establish clearly the guarantee or service policy regarding all merchandise and to fulfil that policy.
6. To provide knowledgeable and competent expertise and clearly indicate the true quality of products offered for sale.
7. To adhere to sound business practices and thus ensure continuing service to customers and suppliers alike.
8. To refrain from all forms of design copyright and trademark infringement.
9. To refrain from trading in conflict diamonds.
